How a $1,000 loan works at Alter Cash

Person in Canada reviewing a ,000 expense before an online loan application

A $1,000 Alter Cash loan is one selectable amount between $250 and $1,500. It sits above $750 and below the $1,500 cap. You repay over 61 to 120 days, bi-weekly or monthly. If an offer is approved, accepted, and signed, funds are sent by Interac e-Transfer the same day, with no transfer fee.

Submitting the form is not an offer of a loan. The contract, if one is issued, states the exact $1,000 cost and schedule. The online form includes $1,000 among the selectable amounts. You will need your contact details and online banking access for the IBV step. Choose $1,000 on the form only when that is the amount you intend to repay over 61 to 120 days.

When a $1,000 loan may fit

Use this page when the bill itself is near $1,000: a vehicle repair after you have paid what you can, one month of rent or the unpaid remainder, essential medical or dental work that is not otherwise covered, or a balance that is already due.

$750, $1,000, and $1,500 are listed amounts in the same Alter Cash product. This page exists so a $1,000 request is not a $750 page with the number swapped. Eligibility, IBV, Interac after approval and signature, and the fee list below do not change with the amount. The contract, if one is offered, states the $1,000 schedule.

If the remaining need is closer to $500, review the $500 loan page. If it is closer to $750, review the $750 loan page. If you need the $1,500 cap, review the $1,500 loan page. Rounding up to $1,000 adds payments you do not need. A $1,000 loan does not fix a gap that returns every month.

How to apply for $1,000

The application is completed online and takes a few minutes. Applications are reviewed during business hours. Submitting the form does not mean a loan will be offered.

  1. Apply online and choose $1,000 on the form. Use a computer or a phone. You will need your contact details and online banking access.
  2. Connect your bank through IBV (instant bank verification). This is a bank check, not a credit-bureau pull. The session is used to review income and account activity. The loan without a credit check page explains that method.
  3. If an offer is made, read and sign the contract. Approved funds that have been accepted and signed are sent by Interac e-Transfer the same day, with no transfer fee.

Who is eligible for a $1,000 loan

To request a $1,000 loan you need to be 18 or older, a Canadian citizen with a Canadian bank account, earn at least $1,200 per month paid by direct deposit, have been with your current employer for at least 3 months, not be in active bankruptcy, and not have a repeated NSF pattern.

An applicant is not eligible if any of these apply: self-employment, child tax credit, retirement savings, student loans, all forms of social assistance (including ODSP), or a KOHO account.

A less-than-perfect credit score does not automatically disqualify an applicant. Every file is reviewed individually. Meeting the list above does not mean a loan will be offered. Alter Cash is a direct lender, not a broker.

Have the information requested by the form available before you begin. If a requirement is unclear, use the contact page rather than guessing.

Cost and repayment

A one-time $0.95 transaction fee is charged when the loan is issued, not each month. A $50 NSF fee applies if a payment is returned. Early repayment is free.

You repay a $1,000 loan over 61 to 120 days, bi-weekly or monthly. The exact $1,000 cost and schedule are in the contract, if one is offered, before you sign. This page is not the contract. Before you sign, check the total to repay, each payment date, the $0.95 transaction fee, and the $50 NSF fee if a payment is returned.

This is not a payday loan. A payday loan is due in full on the next payday. An Alter Cash $1,000 loan, if offered, is repaid in instalments over 61 to 120 days.

See the amount range on the Alter Cash homepage if you are still choosing between $250 and $1,500.
